Bloomsday in Melbourne

Sunday, 24 May 2026 - 6.00pm

Presenters: Karen Fogarty/Steve Carey

Karen Fogarty is joined by playwright Steve Carey and actors Tref Gare and Scott Middleton to discuss Between the Lines: The James Joyce Groucho Marx Letters, Bloomsday Melbourne's 2026 production.

The conversation explores the imagined correspondence between two of the twentieth century's most brilliant and entertaining minds, while also delving into the play's contemporary storyline, which follows a young academic in 1980s Oxford as she discovers the letters and fights for recognition in a male-dominated academic world.

Thoughtful, funny and insightful, this interview offers a fascinating introduction to Bloomsday and the enduring appeal of James Joyce.

Between the Lines: The James Joyce Groucho Marx Letters runs from 17-21 June at 45 Downstairs, Flinders Lane, Melbourne.

Please note that the Bloomsday Seminar and Bloomsday Lunch are now sold out. Tickets for performances of Between the Lines are still available.
