Melbourne Comhaltas Bacon & Cabbage Night
The always popular Melbourne Comhaltas Bacon & Cabbage Night will be held on Saturday 23rd August at St. Philip’s Anglican Church Hall, Hoddle St. in Abbotsford.
Doors open at 7:00 p.m. for a 7:30 p.m. dinner. Celebrate Lughnasa, the Celtic harvest festival, with a 4-course meal plus the famous Comhaltas music, song, dance and craic.
The cost is $35 for Comhaltas members / $40 for non-members.

Lord of the Dance
Michael Flatley’s global dance phenomenon Lord of the Dance returns to Australia with a spectacular new production! This is the first time the show has been in Australia since 2015.
Performances in Melbourne will be at the Margaret Court Arena on Saturday 30th August at 7:00 p.m. and on Sunday 31st August at 2:00 p.m. Tickets range from $129.90 - $159.90 and are available via Ticketek.
Voice of the Irish AGM
The AGM for this Irish program will be held on Sunday 31st August at 2:30 p.m. The meeting will be held in the 3ZZZ boardroom, at 309 Albert St. in Brunswick, just a short walk from Brunswick station.
Everyone is welcome to attend, but only members are eligible to vote. This is a valuable opportunity to reflect on the year gone by, share updates and plans for the year ahead, and to connect with fellow broadcasters and supporters of the program.

Pioneer Total Abstinence Association Mass
The Pioneer Total Abstinence Association will be holding a Mass next Sunday 27th July at 2:00 p.m. in Magnificat House, 456 Queensberry St. in North Melbourne.

Newport Fiddle & Folk Club – flute & whistle workshop
The Newport Fiddle & Folk Club is excited to announce two Flute & Whistle Workshops with acclaimed musician Rennie Pearson. Rennie has had over 20 years of immersion in Irish, Scottish and Maritime Canadian music, and teaches in a way that connects players to the heart of the tradition.
Workshops will be on Saturday 26th July from 1:00 – 3:30 p.m. and on Saturday 9th August from 1:00 – 2:20 p.m. Both workshops will be held at Mechanics Hall, 13/15 Mason St. in Newport. The cost is $40 for Folk & Fiddle Club members and $50 for non-members.

Aslan playing in Melbourne
Legendary Irish group Aslan is coming to Melbourne!
After over 40 years together, Aslan suffered the sad loss of their front man, Christy Dignam in 2023. The group’s other members, Joe, Alan and Billy decided to continue their journey to keep their band, their songs and their music alive.
They welcomed new frontman Lee Tomkins, who has brought a new energy and feel to the band.
Aslan will be performing on Sunday 20th July at 7:30 p.m. at Harvey’s Sports Bar, Fitzroy St. in St. Kilda. They will be supported by local favourites, The Bad Penguins.

The Pirate Queen
Mordialloc Light Opera Company (MLOC) is excited to present the Australian premiere of The Pirate Queen. From the creators of Les Misérables and Miss Saigon comes an epic musical celebrating the legendary heroic Irish Chieftain and pirate, Grace O’Malley.
Based on the real-life story of history’s Grace O’Malley – an Irish Chieftain and notorious pirate, in 16th-century Ireland. O'Malley must confront the one woman more powerful than her — her fierce rival, Queen Elizabeth I of England.

MISS - Frances Devlin-Glass presents “Counter-Cultural Truth-Telling in Furphy’s Fiction and Bulletin ‘Pars’.”
The next in the Melbourne Irish Studies Seminar Series will be on Wednesday 9th July at 4:30 p.m. at the Jabiru Room, Newman College at the University of Melbourne in Parkville. The lecture will also be online for those who cannot attend in person.
Frances Devlin-Glass presents “Counter-Cultural Truth-Telling in Furphy’s Fiction and Bulletin ‘Pars’.”

Saoirse @ Victorian Folk Music Club
Saoirse, will be performing at the Victorian Folk Music Club on Tuesday 8th July. The Club is located at the Ringwood East Senior Citizens Hall, Laurence Grove.
The Celtic-folk band has performed at many festivals throughout Australia over the years, performing traditional Irish favourites as well as original pieces. The group consists of Anthony O’Neill, Bernadette O’Neill, Cyril Moran and Sile Colman.
The performance begins at 7:45 p.m. Tickets range from $11 - $15. They can be purchased in advance via Humanitix or at the door.

Geelong Irish-Scottish Family Day
The Geelong Celtic Supporters Club presents an Irish-Scottish Family Day on Sunday 6th July at the City of Geelong Bowls Club, Ballarat Road in North Geelong.
Join them for a family-friendly celebration of Irish & Scottish culture with live music, local talent and craic all around. Kicking off at 12:00 noon and running until 5:00 p.m., this FREE event features traditional music, kids music, a book reading, raffles, and much, much more!

Melbourne Comhaltas Winter Solstice / 55th Anniversary
Melbourne Comhaltas is marking its 55th anniversary with a Winter Solstice event on Sunday 22nd June at St. Philip’s Anglican Church Hall, Hoddle St. in Abbotsford.
The event kicks off at 2:00 p.m. with a kids and families afternoon, with music, dancing, and kids games and activities.
For the adults, from 5:00 – 9:00 p.m., there will be mulled wine, as well as the famous Comhaltas music, dancing, song and craic.

Lake School 2026 launch
The launch of the 2026 Lake School of Celtic Music, Song & Dance will take place on Saturday 21st June from 3:00 – 6:00 p.m. at the Celtic Club, Sydney Rd. in Brunswick.
The featured artists are the 2025 Stars of the Lake, Glór. Glór is a trio of young women: Ailish Moran, Tadgh Bryant and Dubhessa Bryant.
This promises to be a fantastic afternoon not to be missed. The cost is $10 for adults, children under 17 are free. Bookings are not necessary -- payment to be made at the door.

Maggie Carty Album Launch
Banjo player and singer Maggie Carty launches her debut solo album “Ebb and Flow” with a one-off matinee show featuring her full band, infectious rhythms, and a joyous celebration of modern folk and the Irish diaspora.
Come along for an afternoon of powerful tunes, heartfelt stories, and music that travels across time and oceans.

Welcome Home by Meg McMena
Irish-Australian playwright Meg McMena presents her new play, Welcome Home - running from 18th – 28th June at Chapel Off Chapel.
In Meg’s words, “Welcome Home is an intergenerational comedy-drama about holding on to your place in the world no matter what. The play tackles big issues about belonging and justice. It echoes to our older generation of migrants, who made such a huge sacrifice of home and family for the life they chose to live. Imagine if that home was threatened.”

Friend of the Irish community, Helen Mohan, is stepping down from her role as an outreach coordinator with the Irish Australian Support & Resource Bureau. Everyone is invited to the Bureau on Tuesday the 17th of June from 11:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m. to celebrate Helen and her achievements with the Bureau.

Irish comedy trio Foil, Arms & Hog will be appearing at Hamer Hall on Monday 16th June at 8:00 p.m.
The group has developed quite a following, performing all over the world and amassing over one million YouTube subscribers. Come along for what’s sure to be a fantastic night’s entertainment.

Melbourne Comhaltas Set Dance Workshop Weekend
Bookings are now open for the Melbourne Comhaltas Set Dance Workshop Weekend, which runs from Friday 16th – Sunday 18th May at St. Martin de Porres Parish Hall in Avondale Heights.
The weekend features workshops on Saturday and Sunday, two live music ceilis, lunches and morning teas. Comhaltas is especially excited to welcome world renowned dance master Pat Murphy from Tipperary as the special guest instructor. Come along and do as much or as little as you like, with prices ranging from $20 for just the Sunday ceili to $95 for the full weekend.

Oscar Wilde Reading
Forty-Five Downstairs in Flinders Lane is presenting a staged reading of “De Profundis,” by Oscar Wilde. Sunset music session at Chelsea Yacht Club
The next Sunset Celtic Music Session at the Chelsea Yacht Club will be tomorrow, Sunday 27th April from 4:00-7:00 p.m.
These sessions are on the last Sunday of each month, and they’re a lovely way to spend a Sunday afternoon. All are welcome.
