History Circle - Easter Rising 1916
Sunday, 20 April 2025 - 6.00pm
Presenters: Karen Fogarty & Brian Gillespie
Working on the principle that “England’s difficulty” was “Ireland’s opportunity”, seven bold Irishmen signed a Proclamation declaring a Republic.
The war in Europe was not going well. What was supposed to “be over by Christmas” in 1914 was stuck in the trenches of Belgium and France.
Who were these rebels? A Citizen Army, a Women’s Paramilitary Group, volunteers led by a bunch of teachers and poets.
